In its effort to create more awareness about data protection and privacy, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with social media influencer, Enioluwa Adeoluwa.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Dr Vincent Olatunji, highlighted that no less than 40 million Nigerians use social media daily, underscoring the importance of data protection and privacy. He explained that the MoU was signed in order to increase awareness about data protection and privacy in Nigeria, to help individuals understand their privacy rights and also ensure data controllers and processors are aware of their obligations. Dr Olatunji emphasised that with Enioluwa’s social media following, this partnership will aid in educating the public about the Commission’s mandate and in advancing its roadmap for awareness creation.
On his part, Enioluwa remarked that he was motivated to work with the Commission, not because of the remuneration, but as a means of contributing his quota to national development. He encouraged more young people to participate in nation building as we hope to make Nigeria great again.
The Nigeria Data Protection Act, which established the Commission, was signed into law on June 12, 2023 by President Bola Tinubu. Since then, the Commission, led by Dr Olatunji, has been working actively to ensure that every Nigerian understands his/her privacy rights.
