The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received in audience, a delegation from Zenith Bank PLC, led by the bank’s General Manager, Mrs Ebele Ejiofor, on a working visit to the Commission.
Mrs Ejiofor expressed her delight at the warm reception they received from the Commission. She emphasised that data protection and privacy is a thing of concern in Nigeria and globally, and stated that she’s glad that the Commission is available as an independent authority to run to when the need arises. She mentioned that Zenith Bank PLC, as a data controller of major importance, is mindful of its practices to ensure compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act, 2023) and ready to do more. Mrs Ejiofor added that the visit was also to explore possible areas of collaboration with the Commission.
In his response, Dr Olatunji commended the management of Zenith Bank PLC for its compliance with the NDP Act and collaboration with the Commission so far. He reiterated that the Commission is committed to ensuring that data protection and privacy foster business growth in Nigeria, and this will create trust and confidence in the banking sector.
Dr Olatunji said that the Commission is ready to collaborate with the bank for the betterment of Nigerians. He added that the NDPC will train Zenith Bank staff on data protection and privacy to help them understand the basics of the ecosystem.
