The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, ably represented by the Head of Legal, Enforcement, and Regulation of the Commission, Babatunde Bamgboye Esq., received a delegation from the Data Privacy Lawyers Association of Nigeria (DPLAN).
The Membership Director of DPLAN, Barrister Francis Oronsaye, who led the team, said that they were at the Commission to register their affiliation with its mandate. He noted that DPLAN intends to partner with the NDPC to ensure data protection and privacy are entrenched in Nigeria by providing the necessary legal representation for the average Nigerian in data privacy-related cases.
In his response, Barrister Bamgboye commended DPLAN for its initiatives and assured the group that the NDPC is willing to collaborate with them to further its mission. He emphasised the need for judicial workers with the necessary knowledge of data protection and privacy to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
It was agreed that communication between both bodies would continue as they could explore areas for possible collaboration in the future.
