The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a human capital development team from Microsoft, led by Dr Olubayo Adekanmbi. The visit stemmed from the ongoing partnership between NDPC and Microsoft, aimed at bridging the competence gap and enhancing the understanding of the data protection and privacy ecosystem among the Commission’s staff.
In his remarks, Dr Olatunji stated that the training is part of the Commission’s collaboration with Microsoft and DSN. He emphasised that, as regulators, it is essential for staff to stay abreast of the latest trends and acquire relevant skills in the data protection and privacy space. This training initiative, he noted, is designed to support that objective.
He expressed the Commission’s appreciation to Microsoft and DSN for making the training possible, adding that personnel from various departments would participate. He also conveyed optimism that the program would deepen staff members’ understanding of the data protection ecosystem.
Speaking on behalf of Microsoft, Dr Adekanmbi stated that the training would be hands-on and include real-life case studies. He explained that it would be delivered in a hybrid format—both virtual and in-person—and that participants would have the opportunity to earn 26 certifications across four key areas: technical, legal, compliance, and operational.
The training is also aimed at effectively supporting NDPC staff by providing technical depth, hands-on application, and certification to enhance the Commission’s operational efficiency.
