NDPC Unveils Strategic Plan for First-of-its-Kind Virtual Privacy Academy

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) held a strategic workshop on the Virtual Privacy Academy (VPA) for staff members of the Commission. The VPA, scheduled for launch on July 1st, 2025, is designed to bridge the gap between the theoretical understanding of data protection and privacy and its practical application in everyday life, using the medium of filmmaking.

In his opening remarks, the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, emphasised that the VPA aims to promote awareness and, ultimately, compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act through storytelling that highlights the significance of data protection and privacy. He noted that the VPA is a first-of-its-kind innovation intended to enhance capacity-building across the data protection ecosystem.

The workshop agenda included a brief overview of the VPA concept, a stakeholder mapping exercise, and discussions on the digital media strategy to be adopted for maximum reach, among other key points.
