As a follow-up to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s study tour to Paris in November 2025, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, received the Regional Business Development Manager for West and Central Africa at Thales Group, Aurélien Neu, on a strategic working visit to the Commission.

The study tour, which included visits to nine organisations, including Thales Group, was undertaken to gain practical exposure to mature models of data protection, cybersecurity, and trusted digital services anchored on robust governance frameworks.

Mr Neu, who visited alongside the Financial Counsellor at the French Embassy in Nigeria, Carole Lebreton, noted that the visit was aimed at deepening engagement with the Commission and advancing discussions initiated during the study tour. He highlighted Thales Group’s global expertise in secure digital systems and expressed readiness to support the Commission through technical collaboration, knowledge transfer, and solutions that add value to its operations.

In his response, Dr Olatunji commended Thales for visiting the Commission. He gave a brief overview of data protection and privacy in Nigeria, as well as the processes that led to the enactment of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. He spoke on the Commission’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, which includes human capital development and awareness creation, as well as other initiatives of the Commission to deepen privacy in Nigeria.

Dr Olatunji also spoke on the enforcement process adopted by the Commission. Other areas of collaboration were explored.
