To formalise the partnership between the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), both organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a major milestone for the NDPC in its mandate to deepen data protection and privacy across Nigeria.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, commended the Director-General of the NGF, Dr Abdulateef Shittu, for his willingness to work with the Commission. Listing a few benefits of compliance and the consequences of non-compliance, Dr Olatunji noted that deepening privacy at the state level will ultimately ease its adoption across Nigeria and improve foreign direct investment across states of the federation.
In his remarks, Dr Shittu commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its proactive approach to data governance in Nigeria. Understanding the benefits of compliance and the consequences of non-compliance, he stated that the NGF is pleased to work with the NDPC to strengthen data protection and privacy at the state level to secure Nigeria’s digital landscape.
A working group was formed to drive the implementation of the MoU between the NDPC and the NGF.
