A Continental Benchmark: Nigeria Receives Africa Privacy Scorecard Report in Zimbabwe

The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, was represented by the Head of Strategy, Partnership and Communications at the Commission, Mrs Abiola Jide-Abe, at the 3rd edition of the POTRAZ Data Protection and Privacy Symposium, held at the Holiday Inn, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Delivering a goodwill message, Mrs Jide-Abe reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to meaningful collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the promotion of global best practices in data governance, regulatory compliance, and digital trust.

On the sidelines, Mrs Jide-Abe also received the Africa Privacy Scorecard Report on behalf of Nigeria, a significant continental assessment that benchmarks the state of data protection across African jurisdictions and further underscores the importance of the work Nigeria continues to lead.

At the high-level panel session on, “Compliance and Enforcement: Lessons from African Data Protection Authorities and the Regulators’ Roundtable on Harmonising Data Protection Laws across Africa,” the NDPC was represented by Ms Busayomi Oludotun and Mr Ayomide Victor Ogunjimade. Using Nigeria’s templates, their contributions revealed a blueprint that other African nations can replicate and scale.

The event brought together regulators, policymakers, and data protection stakeholders from across Africa to deliberate on privacy, data governance, regulatory enforcement, and cross-border cooperation. Representatives from South Africa, Malawi, and Botswana joined Nigeria and the host nation, Zimbabwe, at the event.
