The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered a goodwill message at the Digital Transformation Summit 2026 organised by Galaxy Backbone (GBB), with the theme, “Powering Nigeria’s Digital Future”.

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji commended GBB for its achievements since its establishment. He noted his pleasure at being part of the celebrations, stating that digital transformation in Nigeria would be incomplete without the role of GBB in providing a strong foundation for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to build on. He urged MDAs to work together to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Dr Olatunji highlighted the contribution of the digital ecosystem to the global economy, stating that the global digital economy is currently valued at $28 trillion, while the digital economy in Africa is valued at $180 billion, with Nigeria representing 10% of Africa’s digital economy at a value of $18 billion. He reiterated the importance of data protection and privacy to the digital ecosystem and urged everyone involved in the data lifecycle to prioritise data subject rights.

Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Wilson-Jack; the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu; Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Senator Shuiab Afolabi Salisu; and the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, among others.
