The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a delegation from Veeam, led by its Regional Director, Africa Field Sales, Mr Brendan Widlake, on a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Mr Widlake commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its approach to data governance in Nigeria, noting that the visit was aimed at exploring potential areas of collaboration. He highlighted some of Veeam’s products and services that support compliance with the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act), and reiterated the importance of data protection and privacy best practices among data controllers and data processors.

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji stated that the Commission’s achievements are largely attributable to its openness to strategic partnerships and collaborations. He spoke on the mandate of the Commission and underscored the importance of compliance with the provisions of the NDP Act, noting that compliance remains a key mandate of the Commission. He also highlighted the growing level of compliance across sectors, driven by technological advancement, awareness initiatives, and capacity-building programmes implemented by the Commission.

Dr Olatunji noted that there is still more work to be done to deepen compliance and strengthen the culture of data protection in Nigeria. He observed that, as Nigerians continue to develop and deploy digital solutions, new opportunities emerge for partnerships that advance data protection and support the Commission’s mandate, including potential collaboration with Veeam.
