The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a delegation from the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, led by its Commandant, Major-General E.S. Mustapha, on a strategic working visit to the Commission.

Major-General Mustapha commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its proactive approach to data governance in Nigeria. He noted that data is now a strategic national asset and that the NDPC is the first government agency he would be visiting since his assumption of office two weeks ago. He stated that the Command was seeking the NDPC’s support to train its personnel on data protection and privacy best practices, as well as to exchange ideas and knowledge, adding that the delegation sought to explore possible areas of collaboration with the NDPC.

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji commended Major-General Mustapha for demonstrating a forward-looking commitment to data protection. He emphasised that collaboration remains a priority for the Commission and reaffirmed the NDPC’s readiness to assist the Command. He also outlined Nigeria’s data protection journey, key privacy principles, compliance requirements, and considerations for security agencies today and beyond.

To support capacity-building, Dr Olatunji offered complimentary induction training and provided fifty free Virtual Privacy Academy vouchers to the Command. Major-General Mustapha expressed appreciation for the gesture, while both organisations pledged continued cooperation in advancing their respective mandates. Additional areas of collaboration were also explored during the meeting, with plans for future engagement and coordination.
