The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, was represented by the Head of the Commission’s Media Unit, Mr Itunu Dosekun, at the 2026 Colloquium of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), held in Lagos.
Speaking as a discussant during the panel session titled “Data, Ownership and Consumer Protection: How Data Is Used, Governed and Protected in Nigeria’s Digital Environment,” Mr Dosekun emphasised the importance of data protection and privacy in the advertising industry. He noted that advertising agencies have a responsibility to protect personal data while promoting innovation and ensuring that data subjects understand and exercise their rights.
The session reiterated the need for responsible data use and strengthened collaboration among regulators, data controllers and processors, as well as data subjects. Mr Dosekun called for further collaboration between the NDPC and ARCON to promote a stronger culture of data protection compliance within the advertising industry.
