Strengthening Institutional Accountability: NDPC and ICPC Inaugurate Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit

NDPC, ICPC Inaugurate and Induct Members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has inaugurated and inducted members of its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered the Opening Remarks at the event held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. In his remarks, he stated that public service is a position of trust and that public servants must uphold honesty, accountability and transparency in the discharge of their official responsibilities.

Dr Olatunji highlighted the benefits of transparency, noting that the NDPC has measures in place to prevent corrupt practices. He also expressed the Commission’s willingness to collaborate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to prevent and discourage corrupt practices.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, represented by the Director of Systems Study and Review Department, Mr Olusegun Adigun, commended the management of the NDPC for its commitment to accountability and transparency in carrying out its regulatory mandate. He noted that the ACTU serves as a complementary structure for preventing corrupt practices in government offices and sought the support of the NDPC management for the newly inducted ACTU members in the discharge of their duties.

Dr Olatunji pledged the support of the NDPC to the newly inducted ACTU members and reiterated the importance of accountability in the discharge of public duties. Both organisations agreed to collaborate and support each other in fulfilling their respective mandates.
