The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered the Keynote Address at an event organised by Vivacity Development on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81).

Speaking on the theme, “Securing the Digital Frontier: Regulatory Alignment, Data Sovereignty, and Trust as Catalysts for Future Readiness,” Dr Olatunji examined the digital global economy, described Africa as a continent built for the digital century, and highlighted the gaps that threaten the actualisation of Africa’s potential. He stated that regulatory alignment, data sovereignty and trust are the three pillars that carry Africa’s digital frontier.

Dr Olatunji also spoke on the need to have compatible rules while using Africa’s data to advance the continent’s development, data protection and privacy as an economic infrastructure, and the success of Nigeria’s data protection journey, as well as the potential of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. He added that Nigeria is open for collaboration and encouraged other nations to prioritise data protection and privacy.

The session was attended by the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency Dauda Lawal, and other dignitaries from across the world.
