The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) made a strong showing at GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo 2026, held at the Landmark Centre in Lagos.

As part of its participation, Mr Abubakar Mahmud of the IT and Cybersecurity Department represented the Commission as a panellist in a session titled, “From AI Pilot to Public Health Impact: Scaling AI-enabled Self-care across Nigeria’s Public Health System,” contributing to discussions on responsible innovation and the role of emerging technologies in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

The Expo provided a strategic platform for the Commission to promote data protection, privacy awareness and compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act). The NDPC exhibition booth attracted over 3,000 visitors and served as an engagement hub for stakeholders across the technology ecosystem.

The Commission also engaged youths, tech enthusiasts and industry leaders through interactive sessions on data subject rights, data protection principles and safe online behaviour, demonstrating its commitment to public awareness, responsible innovation and regulatory leadership.

Among the dignitaries who visited the booth and engaged with officers of the Commission were the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mr Obafemi Hamzat; the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi; and the Director-General/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Mrs Abisoye Coker-Odusote.
