The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, led a delegation from the Commission on a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Major General Junaid S. Bindawa (Rtd.).

During the briefing, Dr Olatunji highlighted the evolution of data protection regulation in Nigeria, from the establishment of the Bureau to the enactment of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which transitioned the Bureau into a Commission. Highlighting the rapid growth of the data protection ecosystem, he noted that the NDPC’s revenue had increased from ₦7 billion in 2025 to over ₦12 billion as of 2026.

Dr Olatunji emphasised the importance of compliance with the NDP Act and urged the NSIWC to ensure full compliance with the Act. Given the growing global demand for skilled professionals in the emerging data protection ecosystem, Dr Olatunji also stressed the importance of equitable remuneration structures to attract and retain data protection experts within the public service. To support the NSIWC’s compliance efforts, he offered free data protection training for its staff, as well as Virtual Privacy Academy (VPA) vouchers to support capacity development.

In his remarks, Major General Bindawa (Rtd.) commended the National Commissioner/CEO and noted that he had gained a better understanding of the NDPC’s mandate following the briefing. He also commended the NDPC for its efforts to strengthen digital trust and confirmed that the NSIWC was already taking steps towards compliance with the NDP Act. He welcomed and appreciated Dr Olatunji for the proposed training partnership and vouchers.

The visit concluded with both Commissions expressing their commitment to sustained institutional cooperation.
