National Commissioner meets with delegation from NACCIMA
The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau on the 7th of March 2022 hosted representatives of The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA). The delegation was led by the Chairman, Digital Economy Group, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, CON. The meeting's goal was to thank the Minister for his contributions to the Nigerian digital economy, specifically the Nigeria Digital Economy Policy Strategy which spurred the formation of the Digital Economy Commission within the group. The delegation from NACCIMA also wished to congratulate the National Commissioner on his well-deserved appointment and to discuss ways in which NACCIMA can partner with the Bureau. The National Commissioner, Dr. Vincent Olatunji warmly welcomed the team and spoke about the importance of bridging the gap between the private and public sector. He also emphasized on the importance of NACCIMA collaborating with the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau to create ways to raise awareness about the data privacy in Nigeria and identify the most effective ways to ensure that businesses adhere to data privacy regulations. The Commissioner also discussed the importance of collaborating with NACCIMA to raise awareness about data protection in Nigeria. NACCIMA being a relevant stakeholder can continue to promote compliance with Nigeria Data Protection Regulation as it carries out its own duties. The Chairman emphasized on today's technological advancements and how commercial operations in the country have evolved to rely heavily on technology to manage their diverse enterprises. As a result, it is critical to establish a safe IT environment that will equally safeguard Nigerian citizens’ data. He therefore recognized the need for awareness and assured the Bureau that NACCIMA shall mobilize their members to comply with NDPR. He also ensured that NACCIMA will endorse data protection centred trainings and encourage member organizations to partake in data protection certification courses.
