The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr ’Bosun Tijani, was represented by the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, at the second stakeholder session on the establishment of the Ministerial Advisory Council for Cybersecurity Coordination for Nigeria’s Digital Economy, held in Lagos.
Noting the significant contribution of the ICT sector to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Dr Olatunji commended Dr Tijani’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation through stakeholder engagements. He emphasised the need to strengthen existing frameworks, including the Cybercrimes Act and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act), to address emerging cybersecurity and data protection challenges.
Dr Olatunji stated that the proposed Ministerial Advisory Council would provide a platform for key stakeholders across government, industry, academia and civil society to make relevant recommendations for improving cybersecurity coordination. He added that the outcomes of the engagement would support the Ministry’s digital economy blueprint and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, while promoting a secure, resilient and innovation-driven digital Nigeria.
The stakeholder engagement, organised by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to deepen collaboration across the digital ecosystem, strengthen Nigeria’s cyber resilience and foster a trusted environment for innovation, investment and inclusive digital growth
