The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a delegation from FibreOne, led by its Head of Regulatory and Public Relations, Mr. Kenny Jodi, on a courtesy visit to the Commission.
Mr Joda commended the Commission, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its efforts in promoting data protection and privacy in Nigeria. He explained that the purpose of their visit was to better understand the data protection ecosystem, and the steps required to ensure FibreOne’s compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act, 2023). He noted that the company currently serves about 54,000 customers, making it essential to build and maintain customer trust in their data processing activities. He further acknowledged the NDPC as being at the heart of Nigeria’s digital economy and expressed FibreOne’s readiness to partner with the Commission in fulfilling its mandate.
In his response, Dr Olatunji commended FibreOne for taking the initiative to engage with the Commission. He emphasised that trust is fundamental, and that every stakeholder in the data protection and privacy ecosystem must foster a culture of compliance. While outlining the consequences of non-compliance, he highlighted the numerous benefits of compliance, including enhanced credibility in the global market.
