The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received the Director-General of the Jigawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (JISITDEA), Dr Mohammed Hassan, and his team on a courtesy visit to the NDPC.
Dr Hassan commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its support so far. He stated that they were at the Commission to strengthen their partnership as JISITDEA commits to its mandate to drive digital transformation in Jigawa State. He submitted a document, on behalf of the State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, to the Commission, seeking guidance on the certification of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and technical support, among other requests in Jigawa State.
In his remarks, Dr Olatunji commended them for the visit. While he spoke on the cadres of training in data protection and privacy, he stated that their requests were in line with the Commission’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan. He used the opportunity to enlighten them on the activities of the Commission aimed at creating awareness, building capacity, and fostering a privacy-conscious culture in Nigeria.
Dr Olatunji urged them to provide feedback on the Commission’s willingness to support JISITDEA to Governor Namadi. A working group was immediately formed to advance the relationship between the NDPC and JISITDEA.
