The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) recently strengthened its commitment to fostering a strong data privacy culture by participating in two major strategic engagements held in Kano State, advancing its mission to promote awareness and compliance in data protection practices nationwide.
At the Kano Social Influencers Summit (KANSIS), Mr Abdulmalik Jamoh of the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department of the Commission delivered the first plenary address on the critical topic: “Striking a Balance between Data Needs for AI Training and Data Privacy.” The session emphasised the need for responsible innovation and addressed a diverse audience of policymakers, technologists, and digital rights advocates on shaping a participatory and secure digital economy.
In addition, Mr Jamoh also participated in the Cyber Security Innovation Summit at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN). A key highlight was a productive meeting with the President/Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor (Dr) Mohammad Israr, to explore areas of collaboration, including the establishment of a student ‘Privacy Club’ to champion data protection awareness among students in tertiary institutions.
These engagements in Kano State underscore the NDPC’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s cyber resilience through high-level policy discussions and foundational educational initiatives, ensuring a safer digital future for all.
