The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) was represented by the Head of its Innovation Unit, Mrs Adaobi Nwankwo, at the National Symposium on Digital Innovation in Crisis Communication, themed, “Leveraging Emerging Technologies to Transform Crisis Communication: Data Privacy and Digital Trust in Crisis Communication Systems,” where she participated in a panel session.
The event, organised by the Centre for Crisis Communication and hosted at the National Defence College, featured a strong multi-agency presence, including uniformed personnel from the Army, Police, Air Force, Navy, Immigration Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other security agencies, reflecting the importance of coordinated national preparedness in crisis response.
During the session, discussions centred on practical strategies for safeguarding personal data while sustaining public trust in how information is managed during emergencies. Speakers underscored the reality that crisis communication systems increasingly depend on digital platforms, making digital trust (the assurance that systems can protect data, act ethically, and communicate transparently) critical for effective emergency response.
NDPC’s participation reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to advancing data-protection and privacy awareness across all sectors, ensuring that Nigeria’s crisis communication frameworks remain secure, trustworthy, and resilient.
