The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a team from Aelex Legal Practitioners and Arbitrators, led by the Managing Partner, Adedapo Tunde-Olowu (SAN), on a working visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking on the purpose of their visit, Barrister Tunde-Olowu (SAN) said they were at the Commission to familiarise themselves with the operation of the Commission and to explore possible areas of cooperation and partnership. He added that Aelex deals with data controllers and processors across various sectors and would love to work with the NDPC in fulfilling its mandate.
In response, Dr Olatunji expressed his appreciation for the visit. He emphasised that the Commission is committed to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to raise awareness about data protection and privacy in Nigeria. He noted that the Commission operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which has positioned it as a leading institution in Africa and earned it international recognition. He further stated that the Commission is open to exploring collaboration opportunities with Aelex.
Ideas for effective partnership with Aelex were discussed, with consensus that capacity building and knowledge sharing, potentially involving personnel exchange, would be a valuable path forward. It was agreed that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed in the near future.
