NDPC and Cape Verde’s DPA Forge Partnership to Enhance Data Protection

On Day 3 of the UNESCO-organised International Conference in Praia, Cape Verde, the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, paid a working visit to the Data Protection Authority (DPA) of Cape Verde.

The visit focused on fostering partnerships between the NDPC and Cape Verde’s DPA. During the meeting, Cape Verde sought support particularly in the areas of public awareness, capacity building, compliance mechanisms, and strengthening the operations of the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA-RAPDP), among others.

Dr Olatunji shared Nigeria’s experience and assured the Authority of the NDPC’s readiness to collaborate and provide support. The collaboration is expected to commence soon.

Cape Verde’s data protection law, passed in 2001, was the first data protection regulatory instrument in Africa. It was reviewed in 2013, and the DPA was formally established in 2015.
