NDPC and NCS Forge Strategic Alliance to Drive Nigeria’s Data Protection Implementation

The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a team from the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), led by its National President, Professor Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu (FNCS), on a courtesy visit to the Commission in Abuja.

Prof Aliyu commended Dr Olatunji for his commitment to the NCS over the years and added that they were at the Commission to strengthen their relationship with the NDPC. While seeking the Commission’s support for their flagship programmes, they used the opportunity to invite Dr Olatunji to their forthcoming events and assured the Commission of their support in fulfilling its mandate and advancing data protection and privacy in Nigeria.

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji commended the NCS for its programmes, such as advocacy and capacity-building, aimed at developing IT professionals. He noted that while the government makes policies, such policies are usually driven by the private sector, and that associations like the NCS help to drive them. He stated that awareness is a key component of the Commission’s mandate and that the NDPC is committed to strengthening its relationship with the NCS to promote data protection and privacy in Nigeria.

Dr Olatunji assured them of the NDPC’s participation in their events. He advised the NCS to consider admitting individuals who did not study Computer Science or related disciplines at tertiary level but are actively involved in the ecosystem, as this would expand its membership across both the private and public sectors.
