The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, led members of staff on a working visit to the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General O.O. Nafiu, at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
Dr Olatunji commended Brigadier General Nafiu for the warm reception extended to the NDPC team. He highlighted the NYSC’s pivotal role in shaping the careers of young Nigerians and its extensive reach among graduates. He noted the significant employment opportunities available in the data protection and privacy sector, both during and after NYSC service, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
To underscore the NDPC’s commitment to youth development, Dr Olatunji offered to train NYSC staff free of charge and provide vouchers for some staff to enrol in the Virtual Privacy Academy (VPA). He also extended the same opportunities to 100 Corps members in each state and the FCT, as well as offering free training and certification for 100 Corps members as Data Protection Officers (DPOs).
In his remarks, Brigadier General Nafiu noted that data protection and privacy are essential to building confidence in Nigerian businesses in the current digital world. He thanked the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for the training, VPA, and DPO certification offers. He appreciated the prospect of inculcating data protection and privacy into the Scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
Both organisations agreed to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their relationship.
