NDPC and Presidency Partner to Empower Nigerian Youths in Data Protection

The National Commissioner and CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, received in audience the Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), Hon. Titilope Gbadamosi.

Hon. Gbadamosi commended the National Commissioner for the commendable work being done by the Commission and for engaging young people as part of its workforce—an example of inclusivity in action.

Hon. Gbadamosi, during her presentation, outlined the mandate of her office, particularly in promoting youth inclusion in national initiatives. Citing relevant statistics, she emphasised the need to develop more initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global technology space. She noted that the NDPC is well-positioned to serve as a key partner, especially in building the capacity of young Nigerians in data protection.

In his response, Dr Olatunji commended Hon. Gbadamosi for her insightful presentation, describing it as a reflection of her deep understanding and dedication to youth empowerment. He noted that digitalisation in Nigeria is rapidly evolving, and that President Tinubu’s assent to the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, underscores his recognition of its importance.

Dr Olatunji explained that while the data protection ecosystem was initially designed to safeguard citizens’ personal data, it has also become a catalyst for job creation and has enhanced Nigeria’s global competitiveness. He highlighted various NDPC initiatives aimed at building the capacity of Nigerians, particularly young people, to take advantage of the opportunities within the data protection ecosystem.

He affirmed the NDPC’s readiness to collaborate with the SA’s office, in advancing programmes that will empower Nigerian youths. Other areas of partnership were also explored, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
