The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a delegation from Punch Nigeria Limited led by the Executive Director of Business Development and Innovation, Mrs Wummi Tunde-Obe, on a courtesy visit to the Commission.
Mrs Tunde-Obe said they were at the Commission to strengthen their working relationship with the NDPC. She Highlighted some of their new value-added services which the NDPC could leverage to further create awareness of the Commission’s mandate. She reiterated the importance of data protection and privacy, adding that the NDPC should see Punch Nigeria Limited as a partner in progress.
In his remarks, Dr Olatunji commended The Punch newspaper for its outstanding work in news publishing over the years and for innovating appropriately to meet the demands of the 21st century. He added that a significant part of the Commission’s work is centred on awareness creation and noted that the Commission is willing to collaborate with the organisation. He also encouraged them to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), 2023, and to serve as a model for others in their sector.
Areas of collaboration were also explored to further enhance awareness of data protection and privacy in Nigeria.
