NDPC Boss, Dr. Olatunji, Highlights Data Protection as Fuel for Digital Entrepreneurship at OAU Conference

The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, was the Keynote Speaker at the 18th International Multi-Conference on the Application of Information and Communication Technologies to Teaching, Research and Administration (AICTTRA) held at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife on Monday 27th, October, 2025.

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji noted that ICT is the backbone of the modern economy, connecting people, driving innovation, and powering industries across education, health, finance, and many more. He noted that ICT is not just a tool, but the foundation of economic growth, creating opportunities and shaping the future of nations globally.

He spoke on the role of ICT in education and research, job creation and the empowerment of entrepreneurs, as well as a few tips on understanding digital entrepreneurship and global leaders in entrepreneurship. He also enlightened his audience on digital entrepreneurship in Nigeria and the role of social media in its evolution. He pointed out the integral importance of data as the fuel for the machine of digital entrepreneurship, enumerating some advantages of compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act 2023) and the disadvantages of non-compliance.

Present at the event was the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor A. S. Bamire, who was ably represented by a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor E. A. Olajubu. Also in attendance was legal luminary Barrister Femi Falana, SAN, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Gbenga Fasiku.

Dr Olatunji was also presented with an award of recognition at the event, which had many members of academia in attendance.
