The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) participated in the maiden Annual Data Protection Summit & AGM (APS2025) hosted by the Association of Licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisations of Nigeria (ALDAPCON) in collaboration with the NDPC in Lagos.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, was represented at the summit, themed “Strengthening Digital Trust through Collaboration, Innovation, and Compliance Excellence,” by the NDPC’s Head of Strategy, Partnerships & Communications, Mrs Abiola Jide-Abe, who delivered the keynote address on the topic “NDPC Charts Path from Regulation to Sustainable Implementation”.
Mrs Jide-Abe emphasised the need for sustainable implementation of data protection laws, reiterating Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) as key to the NDPC’s success in achieving compliance and operationalising the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) 2023. She highlighted some of the achievements of the Commission, including 36,052 registered Data Controllers and Processors, 56,881 training beneficiaries, and the NDP Act’s translation into major Nigerian languages.
Mrs Jide-Abe commended ALDAPCON for its significant contributions to the data protection ecosystem. Ms Na’ankwat Dariem of the NDPC also participated in a plenary panel discussion, focusing on translating data protection regulations into practical industry application and emphasising multi-stakeholder collaboration and awareness campaigns to advance data protection.
In conclusion, ALDAPCON presented an Award of Appreciation to Dr Olatunji for his visionary leadership, regulatory excellence, and unwavering support in strengthening Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem both locally and globally.
