The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) was represented at a symposium for experts on Data Governance and Financial Services recently hosted in Kigali, Rwanda, by the Head of Legal, Enforcement and Regulations at the Commission, Barrister Babatunde Bamigboye, and an officer from the Audit Unit, Labeebah Yusuf.

The platform was to deliberate on the prospects and challenges of building a sustainable financial ecosystem which transcends borders, with Barrister Bamigboye serving as a panellist in a session which focused on “Digital Finance Without Borders: Standards, Interoperability, and Trust.”

This is part of the Cross-Regulatory Project by the Judge Business School of Cambridge University, and Financial Innovation for Impact. Nigeria was selected as one of the nine countries to be supported with this initiative. Others include Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, and Uganda.

The Inclusive Fintech Forum hosted by the Rwandan Government drew experts in financial services as well as the digital ecosystem. The NDPC delegates joined other experts and participants at this event to explore topical issues relating to digital currency, cross-border digital finance, and digital financial inclusion.
