The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) held the second edition of the Digital Privacy Awareness Campaign (DPAC), a nationwide sensitisation initiative aimed at promoting data protection and privacy awareness within tertiary institutions. This edition was held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State as one of the activities of the National Privacy Week 2026.
The event was opened by the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who was represented by the Head, Innovations at NDPC, Adaobi Nwankwo. She spoke on the importance of data privacy awareness, responsible digital engagement, and the role of academic institutions in fostering a culture of data protection and ethical digital practices.
The event featured a panel discussion themed “From Social Media to AI: Understanding Privacy Risks in the Technologies We Use Daily.” and was moderated by Jennifer Nwokedi, Data Protection and Privacy Consultant at TROS Tech Limited. Panelists included Oladipupo Ige, Director of LawDigits and Chief Consultant at LawFocusUK; Ridwan Badmus, Senior Consultant and Privacy Technologist; Similoluwa Ajani, Assistant Manager, Regulatory and Dispute Resolution Services at Andersen Nigeria; and Ibrahim H. Kehinde, Head of Data Privacy/Enterprise Architecture at the Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
The event also featured two Privacy Talks delivered by Ezinne Kalu, Application Manager at Cyberdeflex, who spoke on the topic: “Digital Footprints Don’t Fade: Understanding What You Leave Behind Online.” and Mojirayo Ogunlana, Executive Director of DigiCivic Initiative who spoke on the topic: “Understanding Your Digital Rights in the Digital World.”
The DPAC UNILAG edition featured interactive sessions and audience engagements aimed at promoting awareness of Nigeria’s data protection framework in academic institutions.
