The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received the Bauchi State Bureau for Information and Communication Technology and Digital Economy (BICT), led by its Director-General, Hayatudeen Babamaji.
Mr Babamaji congratulated the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for the significant strides the Commission has made so far. He stated that BICT visited the Commission to seek support and collaboration on infrastructure and capacity building in the area of data protection and privacy. He added that the Bauchi State Government is constructing a state-owned data centre to serve the entire North-East, and would require the Commission’s assistance to ensure best practices are followed.
Dr Olatunji commended BICT for recognising the importance of data protection and privacy. He emphasised the significance of awareness and human capital in the data protection and privacy ecosystem, noting that State Governments, being closer to the people, must be actively involved. He assured BICT of the Commission’s support in the area of capacity building.
Dr Olatunji also invited BICT to participate in the upcoming Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled for May 2025.
