Representatives from the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), currently participating in the Digital Government Africa (DGA) Summit 2025 in Lusaka, paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) in Zambia, where they were warmly received by Commissioner Likando Luywa.
Leader of the NDPC delegation, Ms Ibukunoluwa Owa from the Legal, Enforcement and Regulation Department, stated that the visit was a follow-up to Commissioner Luywa’s earlier visit to the NDPC headquarters in Nigeria, and aimed at deepening the growing collaboration between both institutions. Ms Owa took the opportunity to highlight the success of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model implemented by the NDPC, emphasising its role in advancing data protection in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Commissioner Luywa welcomed the NDPC team and expressed appreciation for the continued engagement. He acknowledged the progress made since his visit to Nigeria, and affirmed that the ODPC is making significant strides in alignment with shared goals. Demonstrating a strong commitment to collaboration, he revealed that the ODPC plans to send a team to Nigeria to understudy NDPC’s compliance and enforcement processes.
The two agencies held discussions on key issues relating to data protection and privacy governance at the regional, continental, and global levels. Both parties also identified areas for deeper collaboration, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and strengthen their partnership.
