The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) was represented at the ECOWAS Knowledge Exchange by the Commission’s Head of Innovation, Mrs Adaobi Nwankwo. The 3-day event, held in Senegal, presented a major opportunity to further strengthen data governance capacity across the region.
The event brought together diverse groups of data governance professionals from Data Protection Authorities, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ministries, Civil Society Organisations, and the private sector to share insights, expertise, and best practices. By fostering collaboration, building capacity, and promoting innovation, the Knowledge Exchange was to accelerate the adoption of effective data governance solutions and drive sustainable progress across West Africa.
It sought to foster peer-to-peer learning and experience-sharing on data governance and data protection enforcement across West Africa; provided peer support for countries that have not yet implemented data protection laws or established regulatory authorities; identified immediate actions to strengthen regional cooperation and facilitate business transactions and trade; explored long-term strategies for harmonising data protection regulations at the ECOWAS level; and shared practical resources and best practices to support national and regional data governance efforts.
