Privacy by Design: NDPC and CIPMN Partner to Embed Data Protection in Nigeria’s Project Lifecycle

NDPC Signs MoU with Chartered Institute of Project Management of Nigeria

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Project Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) to strengthen data protection compliance within project management practices across the country.

In his remarks, Dr Vincent Olatunji described the MoU signing as a major milestone for the Commission, particularly as it aligns with its human capital development objectives. He noted that project managers play a critical role in national development, especially in driving the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised the importance of equipping project managers across all sectors with data protection and privacy skills. He further described the partnership as a legacy initiative that will be formalised through the MoU.

Mr Ifeanyi Henry expressed his delight at the signing, describing it as a pioneering effort and the first of its kind in Nigeria, where regulators in data protection and project management have come together to promote the development and growth of project management in the country. He affirmed CIPMN’s commitment to ensuring that institutions handling personal data in project execution comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

To ensure immediate implementation of the MoU, a joint implementation team has been established to develop and execute the implementation strategy.
