The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, led members of staff of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd).
Dr Olatunji commended DIG Argungu (rtd) for his participation in the recently concluded National Privacy Week (NPW) 2026. He expressed his delight at the appointment of a Data Protection Officer by the PSC, which is a direct implementation of their previous discussion during the PSC’s visit to the NDPC. He observed that, owing to the large volume of information in its database arising from recruitment activities, the PSC is a data controller/processor of major importance, and underscores the significance of prioritising data protection and privacy.
In his remarks, DIG Argungu commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its organisation of the NPW. He noted that data is at the centre of today’s world and reiterated the importance of data protection and privacy. He added that the PSC is committed to further deepen compliance with the provisions of the NDP Act 2023.
The NDPC and the PSC agreed to knowledge exchange and capacity building to further deepen data protection and privacy in Nigeria.
