Safeguarding Government Data: NDPC, NALTF Collaborate on Privacy Standards for Public Institutions

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) participated actively in a Policy Roundtable on the Implementation of Data Protection Standards in Public Institutions, organised by the National Assembly Library and Resource Centre, established under the National Assembly Library Trust Fund (NALTF), in Abuja.

The NDPC was represented by staff members of the Commission, Ms Busayomi Oludotun and Mr Funso Filani, at the session, which focused on advancing the implementation of data protection standards across public institutions. Discussions centred on legislative and administrative systems, the responsible handling of personal data, regulatory compliance, and the role of data protection in strengthening public sector governance and accountability.

Participants at the session engaged in insightful discussions on the practical challenges and opportunities associated with embedding data protection principles within government institutions while exploring strategies for fostering a culture of privacy, transparency, and compliance in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).

The interactive engagement provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and stakeholder collaboration, reinforcing the commitment of public institutions to safeguarding personal data and supporting the successful implementation of Nigeria’s national data protection programme.
