In line with the Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), particularly in advancing human capital development and strengthening the data protection culture, the NDPC organised a two-day training programme on data protection and privacy for staff of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund).
As a data controller and processor of major importance responsible for processing the personal data of students across Nigeria, the training was essential to promoting compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act), enhancing public trust in NELFUND’s data processing activities, and strengthening institutional capacity to implement robust privacy and data protection measures.
The capacity-building programme focused on key areas, including an overview of the NDP Act, principles guiding the lawful processing of personal data, the rights of data subjects, as well as Technical and Organisational Measures (TOMs) required for effective data protection and privacy management.
The training reflects the NDPC’s commitment to deepening data privacy awareness, building a resilient data protection ecosystem, and promoting global best practices in personal data governance across public institutions in Nigeria.
