The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a delegation from Nile University, led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Prema Kirubakaran, on a strategic working visit to the Commission.
In her remarks, Prof. Kirubakaran commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for the warm reception. She noted that the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration aimed at deepening data protection and privacy within the academic community, particularly at Nile University. She further initiated discussions on potential areas of partnership, including postgraduate research initiatives, structured training programmes, and the establishment of a mutually beneficial institutional relationship, among others.
In his response, Dr Olatunji commended the University for its proactive approach to data protection and emphasised that partnerships remain a core strategy of the Commission. He highlighted existing engagements with the University, noting that the Commission’s Digital Protection Awareness Campaign (DPAC) was formally launched at Nile University, alongside the establishment of a Privacy Club within the institution.
Dr Olatunji assured the delegation of the NDPC’s readiness to collaborate and provide support in key areas, including the development of dedicated internship pathways aimed at equipping students with practical skills and enhancing their readiness for the privacy ecosystem. He concluded by emphasising the importance of responsible data processing, particularly the need to safeguard student records in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
