The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has commenced the Ekiti State edition of its ongoing Data Protection Officers (DPOs) training and certification programme, expanding the initiative already underway in Abuja and Lagos.
Delivering an overview of the training, the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who was represented by the Head of Research and Development, Dr Tolu Pius Fadipe, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to bridging the global shortage of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) by building a pool of highly skilled and globally competitive professionals.
She noted that the initiative aligns with national efforts to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths, while positioning the country as a hub for data protection expertise within the global digital economy. She stated that the training programme is designed to meet international standards, and urged participants to remain focused and committed throughout the exercise.
In his welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Chief Kayode Fasae, highlighted the importance of the initiative in empowering Ekiti youths with in-demand digital skills.
The Ekiti training marks another significant step in the NDPC’s nationwide drive to deepen data protection capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy through human capital development.
