The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) recently participated in the Women in Technology and Engineering Summit and Awards 2026, themed “Engineering Africa’s Future: Innovation, Infrastructure, and Inclusive Technology”, held in Lagos.
The NDPC was represented at the event, convened by Womennovate, by staff of the Commission, including Ms Na’ankwat Dariem, Ms Omoikhefe Ahimie, and Ms Busayomi Oludotun. The Summit brought together stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, development organisations, and the broader tech ecosystem to discuss advancements in innovation, strengthen infrastructure, and promote inclusive technology across the continent.
Ms Oludotun served as a panellist in a session titled “Policies versus Reality: What Will It Take to Truly Build a Thriving Tech Ecosystem?”, alongside other notable industry experts. During the session, she highlighted the NDPC’s mandate as the regulatory authority responsible for ensuring that organisations comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act).
The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, which recognised outstanding contributions to technology, engineering, and innovation. Notably, the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, was honoured with the “Male Ally for Women in Technology” award. The award was received on his behalf by Ms Dariem. This recognition underscores the Commission’s ongoing commitment to championing robust data privacy frameworks and digital literacy initiatives that empower all citizens equally, fostering safe and gender-inclusive growth across the technology sector.
