The New Standard: Dr Olatunji Mandates .ng Domains for All Compliance Organisations

The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered a goodwill message at Tech Convergence 3.0, themed “Strengthening Nigeria’s Digital Independence: the Role of Policy, Digital Identity and .ng for Economic Growth,” organised by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA).

In his remarks, Dr Olatunji congratulated NiRA on its achievements over the years and highlighted the strong working relationship between the NDPC and the Association. He noted that one of the key requirements for Data Protection Compliance Organisations (DPCOs) is the use of a .ng domain and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting NiRA through the expansion of their collaboration.

Dr Olatunji emphasised that Nigeria’s digital future depends on its digital identity and reaffirmed the NDPC’s readiness to ensure the development of a digital identity that Nigerians can proudly project on the global stage. On behalf of the Commission, he also proposed data protection and privacy training for NiRA registrars as part of the NDPC’s contribution to the human capital development of NiRA stakeholders.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Senator Shuiab Afolabi Salisu; his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Honourable Adedeji Stanley Olajide; the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone (GBB), Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju; and the Chairman of NiRA’s Board of Trustees, Dr Ibukun Odusote; among others.
